Winter in Lyon, oil on panel by Adolf Kaufmann, 1848-1916, Austrian-born German artist.
Kaufmann was initially self-taught and completed his study in Paris. He was known for his landscapes and marine scenes. Kaufmann’s paintings were most often purchased by representatives of the aristocracy for people like Napoleon III, Archduke Friedrich and Tsar Nicholas II.
For a time, Kauffman gave art lessons for women in Vienna along with painter Carl Freiherr von Merode.
